Betty,mrslee2002@hotmail.com,Had a quick look at k-12mathedu this morning. Interest captivated. Will revisit with more time.
Currently teaching English in China but normally teach Maths/Science/Computing to high school students in Australia.
Betty,mrslee2002@hotmail.com,Looked at lesson on 3X.
I was amazed by what children so young did. Remember I teach high schol students - some of these would have me believe they are brain dead - really they are turned off to maths or lazy.
I believe that, currently, in Australia (NSW anyway), they teach x3 rather than 3x.
Your method certainly seems to encourage "Pure Mathematics" thinking.
Without concrete material use, I wonder if it really gives the students an "understanding" of what 4x3 really represents? If the students "discovered" "facts" playing with some objects, would that be more likely?
